No single OKLCH tool is best at every job. Some teach the model, some expose expert curve controls, some manage broad creative workflows, and some are precise single-color pickers. We audited five public tools on desktop and a 390 × 844 mobile viewport on July 30, 2026.
Audit scope
Method
We entered or adjusted a base color, looked for gamut feedback, checked whether contrast could use a chosen surface, inspected export options, and repeated the core interaction at mobile width. We did not score brand aesthetics, paid features behind checkout, or long-term reliability. Features can change after the audit date.
Workflow comparison
| Tool | Observed strength | Best fit | Tradeoff observed |
|---|---|---|---|
| oklch.fyi | Clear education paired with a simple 9-step generator, CSS variables and WCAG feedback | Learning OKLCH while making a first ramp | Fewer expert curve and interchange controls |
| ColorMeUp LAB | Detailed curve controls, APCA/WCAG views, Tailwind output and live component previews | Experienced designers tuning a system | Dense interface asks more of a first-time user |
| Palettt | Broad palette suite spanning harmony, images, exports and assisted workflows | Creative exploration across many inputs | Large surface area and some gated product paths |
| Atmos | Polished guided workflow and strong explanatory content | Teams that want a productized palette process | Account-oriented flow is heavier than a quick local utility |
| oklch.com | Focused OKLCH picker and converter | Inspecting or converting one color | Not designed as a full ramp/token workflow |
What became our benchmark
Three products set the primary bar: oklch.fyi for clarity, ColorMeUp LAB for expert controls, and Palettt for breadth. The useful gap was a fast local-first workbench that keeps gamut movement, both contrast models, image extraction and developer exports in one single-page flow.
Choose by task
- Learn the basics: oklch.fyi presents education next to generation.
- Tune advanced curves: ColorMeUp LAB exposes unusually detailed controls.
- Explore many creative sources: Palettt offers a broad suite.
- Follow a guided team workflow: Atmos emphasizes process.
- Convert one coordinate: oklch.com stays focused.
- Generate locally and hand off code: this site combines ramp, harmony and image modes with CSS, Tailwind, DTCG and SVG output.
Limits of the comparison
This is a task-based snapshot, not a permanent ranking. We used the public interfaces available on the audit date and did not create paid subscriptions. Mobile “works” means the primary interaction remained reachable without horizontal overflow; it does not certify full accessibility.
